The Hawaiʻi County Fire Department says the two hikers, a 21-year-old female and a 24-year-old male, were unfamiliar with the area and became stranded on the rocky shoreline at the base of a cliff between Pololū Valley and Honokane Valley.
Swimmers were at Anna’s Pond in Wiamea when a flash flood swept them away into the stream.
