The KES Discovery Garden, located in Kapaau, Hawaii, is a learning garden for 352 students, their teachers, staff and families, as well as the greater community of North Kohala. Learning in the Discovery Garden is exploratory and multi-sensory, and nourishes the whole child: their mind, body, and well-being. Community engagement is a key component in our garden program; students learn the concept of seed to sale by growing, harvesting, weighing, and selling produce to local businesses within our community. The mission of the Discovery Garden was created: To teach in an exploratory manner, sustainable agricultural practices, the STEM subjects, wellness and nutrition, and Hawaiian pono (righteous) behavior.
