Geselle Cross Police Report week of 7/19/2015 KNKR News
Aloha Kohala. This is Geselle Cross at KNKR with your
North Kohala Police Report.
After a 20 hour stand off with local police, a negotiator and
the SRT special response team, 37 year old Mackdon D.
Thromman walked out of a Halaula house on Akoni Pule
Hwy, was apprehended, handcuffed and escorted to the
North Kohala Police Station.
The incident began Monday night July 13. According to the
Hawaii Tribune Herald an argument broke out between
Thromman and his girlfriend. Thromman allegedly
retrieved a loaded 30-30 hunting rifle from the back of his
truck. He then threatened to kill her, their children and the
girlfriends parents. After repeatedly beating her,
Thromman then shot his girlfriend in the thigh. North
Kohala police responded to a report of a domestic
disturbance around 7:48 pm. Thromman allegedly told
them to not come into the yard or he would shoot them.
The officers ordered Thromman to put the rifle down.
Thromman then fired two shots, hitting Officer Ray Fukada
in the right forearm.
The girlfriend and family members were able to flee the
house to safety. Neighbors were evacuated. The North
Kohala Police created a cordon surrounding the house.
Akoni Pule Hwy was shutdown only allowing periodic
access for residents. A negotiator and the SRT were called
in to assist local police. At 3:24 pm, SRT members fired 3
shots of pepper spray into the house. Thromman fired
back toward the police. He then fired again hitting the
armored truck used by the SRT. Finally at 4:26 pm,
Thromman surrendered. Thromman has been charged
with 22 offenses including attempted first degree murder
and terroristic threatening. Because of a request for a
Marshalese translator for Thromman a second hearing is
set for Tuesday at 1 pm at the North Kohala courthouse.
According to fellow officers, Officer Ray Fukada is now
home from the hospital and is recovering. Because of the
Professional response, patience, and attention to
community safety, the North Kohala Police Dept were able
to deescalate this highly volitile and dangerous situation.
