The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Hawaii Island. Currently heavy rains and some flooding conditions are being reported across areas of both east and west Hawaii. The current unstable weather conditions are likely to continue through tomorrow and result in periods of heavy rains across all parts of the island. Some residents in the Kawaihae Village area are being affected by flood conditions and evacuated. An evacuation center has been opened at the Waimea Community Center. Currently, Akoni Pule Highway is closed at the Kawaihae Harbor area and North Kohala traffic is being detoured through the Kohala Ranch Subdivision. All other major highways are open at this time however motorists are advised to drive carefully and to be prepared for possible ponding, runoff, and other hazardous conditions as well as unexpected road closures and traffic delays. Due to dangerous flooding conditions the following roadways are closed at this time to all traffic:
- Apelehama Road near the Kalopa State Park
- Kupuna Road or Old School Road in Ahualoa
- Hualalai Road near Guava Road in Kailua Kona
