The fans were out in force this afternoon in Honomakau as the Kohala High School Cowboys defeated the visiting Ka’u Trojans 28-6 on the campus of Kohala High School. Today marked the inaugural broadcast by Kohala’s own KNKR 96.1 FM Kohala Radio crew consisting of Donovan Aiona doing the play-by-play, Danny C. doing color, and former Kohala High Football coach, Billy Rodrigues, lending his expertise as color commentary. The Cowboys were directed by Kainalu Emeliano-Solomon taking on the quarterbacking chores scoring on one rushing touchdown, Kobe Koholoa’a-Aguilar rushing for two scores, and Isaiah Villacorte-Caravalho rushing for another. The Cowboy defense stifled Ka’u all day long allowing only one touchdown in the entire game. Moses Hooton and Cayson Carlos-Ellazar led an aggressive defense that held the defending 8-man champions to only one score. Overall, a great opening game win over the Trojans of Ka’u.
