This is a Tropical Storm Darby update as of Saturday July 23rd at 11 PM.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Hawai’i County.
A flash flood warning is in effect for Hawai’i County until 12:30 AM Sunday, and a High Surf Warning is in effect for east facing shores of Hawai’i County until 6 PM Sunday.
A Brown Water Advisory has also been issued for Hawai’i County due to heavy rains. The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible contamination. If the water is brown, stay out.
As of 11 PM, the National Weather Service reports Tropical Storm Darby is located about 55 miles West of Kailua-Kona, moving away from Hawai’i Island to the West-Northwest at 10 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds are 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.
HELCO crews are working through the night to restore pocket outages in Puna, Hilo, and Hamakua.
The Hele-On Bus will resume its regularly scheduled service on Sunday morning beginning with the 3:15 AM Hilo to Waikoloa bus.
Solid waste transfer stations and landfills will be open as normally scheduled.
County parks and recreational facilities, including the Pana’ewa Zoo and Hilo Municipal Golf Course, will reopen tomorrow. Lava Viewing will resume Monday.
Umauma Bridge on Highway 19 will reopen at midnight tonight.
The remaining emergency shelters will close at 8 AM Sunday morning.
