The road to the summit of Mauna Kea is closed to the public at the Visitor Information Station at an elevation of 9,200 feet due to ice, snow, freezing temperatures, fog and high humidity throughout the entire night. Road crews attempted to clear the frozen snow on the summit. They will resume operation again tomorrow morning. The weather forecast predicts more snow and ice. The NWS has posted a wind advisory through 6:00 a.m. HST, Tuesday for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa summits. A winter watch is in effect for he Big Island summits for tonight and tomorrow morning. This message will be updated as conditions change.
