Fernanda is moving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Friday night. Satellite-derived wind data indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours, and Fernanda is forecast to become a hurricane tonight. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
