Hawai’i Electric Light personnel have completed maintenance and equipment upgrades in North Kohala.
This project to improve system reliability required an overnight outage to ensure personnel could perform the work in safe conditions and restore service as quickly as possible. The work included upgrading the Waimea substation which services all of North Kohala, upgrading the Hala’ula Substation in Kapa’au, replacing several transmission poles, and trimming trees.
You may have experienced a few brief power interruptions while power was being restored this morning. During the restoration process, personnel identified three areas that needed to be addressed which required about 20 more minutes to resolve. Service was restored to all customers at 6:18 a.m.
