Hearings being held this week will give the public a chance to weigh in on proposed administrative rules for public and commercial activities on Mauna Kea.

Four hearings are scheduled this week, the first being held Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sullivan Conference Center located at the UH Cancer Center, 701 Ilalo Street, Honolulu.

The three other hearings on Hawaii Island and Maui will take place according to the below schedule:

•    September 25, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii, 600 Imiloa Place, Hilo
•    September 26, 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School, 68-1730 Hooko Street, Waikoloa
•    September 28, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Ike Leaa (Room 144), UH Maui College, 310 West Kaahumanu Avenue, Kahului

Some of the proposed rules include clarification on use of Mauna Kea lands for cultural and traditional practices.

After the public hearings, the rules will then go to the UH Board of Regents. If the approved by the board, they will then be sent to the governor for final approval.

For those unable to attend the hearings, testimony can be submitted online at the UH Government Relations website; via email at uhhar@hawaii.edu; or by writing to the UH Government Relations Office, 2442 Campus Road, Administrative Services Building 1-101, Honolulu, HI, 96822.
