This is a Civil Defense message

This is a Hurricane Douglas informational message for Friday, July 24th.
The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued
a Hurricane Watch for the Island of Hawaii.
A hurricane watch means there is a good possibility of Hurricane conditions of damaging winds, surf, and flooding rains occurring anytime within 48 hours.
Hurricane Douglas is currently a category 3 hurricane with maximum
sustained winds of 115 miles-per-hour and is located 785 miles East Southeast of Hilo.
Douglas is moving West Northwest at 18 miles-per-hour.
Hurricane Douglas is forecast to be a category 1 hurricane when it reaches
Hawaii Island on late Saturday evening-early Sunday morning.
Warning level surf is forecast for East facing shores.
Six to ten inches of rain and Hurricane force winds are forecast this weekend.

As a precaution, due to the forecasted weather conditions, the following public safety measures and recommendations are now in effect:

· Oceanfront residents on East facing shores are urged to be on alert for high and dangerous surf conditions.

· Boat and aircraft owners should take measures to secure their vessels until the danger passes.

· Complete preparations before 8:00pm Saturday evening.

· Be prepared as conditions can change rapidly!
