Kauai’s Power Company Says Largest Generating Unit Inoperable

An islandwide outage on Kauai'i 's has knocked out the power cooperative's largest generating unit and rolling blackouts could be implemented, the utility said Sunday. At about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, roughly 90 percent of the power cooperative's members had their electricity restored. Wind gusts likely cause of Hawai‘i Island power outage

Via Hawaii Electric: About 51,000 Hawai‘i Electric Light customers in various areas around the island experienced a power outage at about 10:45 a.m. today. Faults on two transmission lines along the Hamakua Coast disconnected independent power producer Hamakua Energy from the grid and caused a sudden loss of generation.
