The Hawaiʻi County Fire Department says the two hikers, a 21-year-old female and a 24-year-old male, were unfamiliar with the area and became stranded on the rocky shoreline at the base of a cliff between Pololū Valley and Honokane Valley.
The High Surf Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight to noon HST on Thursday. Surf heights will build to 10 to 15 feet along exposed north facing shores, and 6 to 10 feet along exposed west facing shores.
An unknown amount of wastewater was discharged from the treatment system at the Hu Honua Bioenergy site north of Hilo on Nov. 9, the health department announced Friday. The discharge came from a treatment tank that held wastewater used to clean boilers at the power plant.

HILO — One of lower Puna’s most popular beach parks will officially reopen next week after a six-month-plus closure because of lava.
