New black sand beaches have formed near Kapoho, created by the 2018 eruption of Kilauea volcano in lower Puna. Firefighters are working to extinguish a blaze near the 12 mile marker on 'Akoni Pule Highway in North Kohala. An eyewitness informed KNKR news around 10:15 this morning of a fire smoldering near mm 12 on Akoni Pule Highway. At 12:55pm a helicopter was on the scene. There are currently no road closures or advisories.
