Kohala Cowgirls Advance HHSAA

Kohala Cowgirls advanced to the second round of the the HHSAA Division II tournament winning 18-2 victory over Kalaheo in Honolulu. The Cowgirls scored 6 runs in the 1st inning. Kohala advances to the second round against No. 2 seeded Waimea. Game time is 1 p.m. today.

From today's West Hawaii Today: According to information from the Hawaii County Police Department, Hilo experienced 108 burglaries so far this year, Puna had 75, South Kona had 18, 12 in Ka‘u, five in North Hilo, four in Hamakua, and three in North Kohala. Lion’s Club Mothers Day Breakfast

Windy interview with 2015 Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast Chairman Aaron Sienkiewicz The volunteers arrived by 5am to clean, cook, and set up for the 8th annual Kohala Lions Club Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast. More than 600 tickets are sold for this annual treat which also serves as a great fund raiser for the Lions Club. Our breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausages, orange, fried rice, pancakes, butter, syrup, coffee, and juice. Delicious!

Brush Fire Closes Highway 11/Pahala

Highway 11 is closed in the area of mile marker 56, near Pahala, Hawaii County Civil Defense reports. The Hawaii County Fire Department said a runaway brush fire was located near the intersection of Highway 11 and Ninole Loop.
