Next Thursday, June 11, is Kamehameha Day, which was first established in 1871 to honor Kamehameha the Great, who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810 and became Hawaii’s first king. 5-8 Tropical Cyclones Forecast

NOAA’s Central Pacific Hurricane Center today announced that climate conditions point to an above-normal hurricane season in the Central Pacific Basin this year. For 2015, the outlook calls for a 70% chance of an above-normal season, a 25% chance of a near-normal season, and a 5% chance of a below-normal season. The Fairmont Orchid Resort has been sold to South Korea-based Mirae Asset, one of Asia’s largest independent financial services firms, for $200.3 million, according to public documents obtained by Duane Shimogawa ofPacific Business News. Kohala Cowgirls Advance HHSAA

Kohala Cowgirls advanced to the second round of the the HHSAA Division II tournament winning 18-2 victory over Kalaheo in Honolulu. The Cowgirls scored 6 runs in the 1st inning. Kohala advances to the second round against No. 2 seeded Waimea. Game time is 1 p.m. today.
