The northbound (makai-bound) lane of Hawi Rd between Akoni Pule Hwy & Keawe Iki St remains restricted due to a downed utility pole caused by a traffic crash. First responders have turned the scene over to utility crews who anticipate working throughout the day to repair the damages. Utility crews have set up an alternating traffic pattern using flaggers.
The Coast Guard closed both Hilo and Kawaihae harbors as of 11 a.m. today in advance of Hurricane Hector. Coast Guard personnel are on the Big Island doing pre-storm assessments of the ports.
