DJ Stereogab has always been a huge music fan. Her first words were soon followed by Beatles songs, and one of her earliest memories is of her dad letting her spend her allowance on cassettes at the local Sam Goody’s. A child of the 1980s, her love for New Wave and anything synthy started when MTV hit the airwaves. She was one of those kids who always had her headphones on and made mix tapes for friends. When she got hip to noncommercial stations on the left end of the dial, she was in pure heaven learning about obscure electronic and experimental bands. Fast-forward to college, and DJ Stereogab was a fixture at her university’s radio station, eventually becoming its General Manager. She takes her moniker from one of her favorite bands, Stereolab, and her “Switched on Stereogab” show takes its name from Stereolab’s “Switched on Stereolab”’ albums, which in turn were inspired by Wendy Carlos’ groundbreaking “Switched on Bach” album of Moog synthesizer covers.
