Tropical Storm Flossie Information Update

This is Hawaii County Civil Defense with a Tropical Storm Flossie update message for Saturday, August 3 at 5 in the afternoon.  The Central Pacific Hurricane Center reports the center of Flossie is 620 miles east of Hilo moving WNW at 13 MPH.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued a High Surf Warning for east facing shores of Hawaii Island through Monday.  A High Surf Warning means large breaking surf, significant shore break, and dangerous currents that could cause significant injury or death.

The following remain in effect;

  • Whittington and Punaluu Beach Park camping permits and pavilion rentals are cancelled through the weekend.
  • Bayfront Parking lot on Kamehameha Avenue remains closed until further notice. 
  • Hele-On buses will continue to pick-up passengers behind the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
