Hawaii Now Declared in State of Emergency

Gov. David Ige announced Friday afternoon he has signed a statewide emergency proclamation in response to Hawaii Island’s ongoing dengue fever outbreak. The governor said that the measure was also a preventive measure in light of the threat of the Zika virus, which has health officials worldwide keeping a close eye on mosquito-borne illnesses.

Highway 190 is closed between the Saddle Road

HPD reports that Highway 190 is closed between the Saddle Road Junction to north of the 17 Mile Marker due to multiple brish fires.  Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to use Waikoloa Road and Kaiminani Street to detour around the affected area.
