Hawi Man Dies in Gunshot Accident

A 32-year-old Hāwī man died Saturday (August 8) of an apparent accidental gunshot wound. He has been identified as Aaron Kondo. At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, North Kohala police responded to a report of an unconscious man with a hole in his chest in Kapaʻau. Mauna Kea New Unique Playground

The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation announces a public dedication ceremony commemorating the opening of a unique playground at Mauna Kea Recreation Area. The event will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 17, at the park. Mayor Billy Kenoi and County Councilman Aaron Chung  will be among the dignitaries opening the new playground.

Brush Fire Update

Hawaii Fire Department reports fires in Kawaihae area continue to burn out of control however conditions in the immediate area have improved and allow for the opening of all roadways.  All roadways have been opened and residents in the Kawaihae Village area may return home.  The evacuation center at the Waimea Community Center will be closed as of 4:30 this afternoon.
