A 32-year-old Hāwī man died Saturday (August 8) of an apparent accidental gunshot wound. He has been identified as Aaron Kondo. At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, North Kohala police responded to a report of an unconscious man with a hole in his chest in Kapaʻau. Hawaii Fire Department reports fires in Kawaihae area continue to burn out of control however conditions in the immediate area have improved and allow for the opening of all roadways. All roadways have been opened and residents in the Kawaihae Village area may return home. The evacuation center at the Waimea Community Center will be closed as of 4:30 this afternoon.
The fire department just authorized that all roads will be open at 3:30pm. Please drive with caution.
